I like to fry my hair - you name it - curling wand, curling iron, a straightening iron. I love them all! I was previously using the very much loved Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray, but I wanted to try a higher end brand and something that would not only be a heat protectant but had a light hold as well - I chose to try Redken Iron Shape 11 at the advice of my local Chatters. First, a little bit about my hair needs:
About my hair:
Texture: Curly in the front and wavy in the back
Thickness: Super duper thin
Length: Medium - below the shoulder
Color: dark ash brown

The Product: Redken Iron Shape 11 ($30 cDN)

What most intrigued me about this product is that it's a protecting spray but offers hold to the actual heat style as well. Like all heat protecting sprays you apply it to damp or dry hair prior to applying heat.
The number 1 ingredient in this thermal spray is alcohol - which was a little surprising; I expected it to be water. Alcohol - although a great ingredient to hold a style, can be very drying to the hair. Now onto the claims! Here's what the Redken Iron Shape 11 claims to do:
- Provide medium control spray
- Protects and repair
- Locks in heat styles
- Adds a smooth, shiny finish

The Results
I have 3 words to describe my personal experience with this product: crunchy, crispy, and dull.
Where to begin - I gave this heat spray a good trial run over a few weeks. I first sprayed my hair generously, but it left my hair crunchy. Then I tried to lightly spray, and I had the same result. This occurred with both dry and wet hair. After applying heat to the hair, it left it crispy, and with no movement. I didn't find the product conditioning at all - but rather drying over all.
As for the actual hold - sure it does hold a style - but it doesn't allow for much movement to the hair. I personally did not find much of a different using this product and just heat styling my hair with no product at all.
I have not one good thing to say about this one - I wish I could return it. But it's one of those things that I just forgot about - so at this point it's likely to get tossed. I generally like Redken products - for the diversity and the quality - but this one was a total fail for me.
