Red Apple Lipstick was founded in 2007 by Jay Harper to bring a new line of cosmetics focused on paraben free, gluten free, animal free, vitamin-e enriched lipstick while offering great customer service. Their focus is developing cosmetics that have more natural products, and are over-all great for your skin. And well, when you're practically ingesting lipstick that's a good thing! Before we get into the details - first about my lip needs:

Facts about my skin:
Skin tone: Olive tone
Lip tone: Berry tone lips
Lip condition: normal, but require moisture in my dry climate!

The Product: Red apple Lipstick Mayberry ($24 USD)

The package I received came in a little linen pouch. The actual lipstick comes in a regular plastic case, with the logo engraved on the side.

The company offers many colors I decided to try out the Mayberry color as it looked like a great 'my lips but better' option for the fall season. On their website they offer swatch pictures on different skin tones - which is a great feature as lip colors looks vastly different amongst different skin tones.

The color itself is described as "dusty rose with a hint of berries." The first ingredient in the lipstick if sunflower oil - which is a great skin conditioner and is high in vitamin-e.

Full ingredients list: Helianthus Annus - 100% pure organic cold pressed, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii, Synthetic Beeswax, All Natural Gluten Free - Soy Free - Corn Free Vitamin E Tocopheryl Acetate, May Contain: Titanium Dioxide ,Manganese Violet, Mica, Iron Oxide.

The Results

Even before receiving this product I was impressed with the great customer service (they offer a ridiculous 6 month return policy!). After shipping out their order to me, they emailed me to ensure that it was delivered and to ask how I liked the products - which they do with every order. I think the packaging could use a little improvement to give it more of a luxurious feel - especially given the price point.

Color: I really like the color of this lipstick - I think it's a great universal color. For my natural berry lips, it offers a 'bare lips but better look'. For fair skin, I think it would bring out the blue tones in the lipstick, and those with darker skin, it would offer a nude color. This particular color did have some shimmer to it, which wasn't too noticeable when first applied but I could definitely see the speckles of glitter as it wore out.

Formula: The formula itself was moisturizing, after a 3-4 hours wear, I did find the formula a little drying and definitely time to re-apply, or apply an additional moisturizer. The color itself did leave a faint stain on my lips which I enjoy.

Overall, I was impressed with red apple lipstick. I think that their ingredient list was impressive, and I do like their color range. For those who are gluten sensitive - this is definitely a line to look into. I do think they offer a great range of colors and I especially like that you can grab samples of the colors themselves so you don't commit to purchasing a full size. Given the price, these lipsticks may be out of reach for some given the price. In comparison MAC lipsticks are $19 CDN). For future purchases, I would definitely purchase multiples for a better price on their lipsticks (as they offer discounts when purchasing multiples)
