Makeup brushes are a dime a dozen, but finding good quality affordable brushes is another story! Let me introduce you to Real Techniques brushes. Here's a quick history on Real Techniques they are two makeup artist sisters from the UK who are now YouTube beauty gurus. Since then they have delved into the makeup brush world and now have their own line. Check out more about them here.

Real Techniques brushes can be found online, I was fortunate enough to find mine at Winners (I've seen many of their collections there). Now, on to the ones I've tested out!

The Product: Brush & Powder Brush ($11 CDN each)

The brush collection over all is very well designed. Here are the details (check out more here):
  • the brushes are made from synthetic bristles (taklon) making them very soft
  • the brushes are color coded for the collection (pink = perfect finish, yellow = flawless base, blue (not shown) = enhance eyes)
  • all brushes have names on the handles for easy reference - call me crazy but this is GENIOUS. The MAC numbering system is great for the lovely artists out there - but for us common folk I'm for easy names like "blush brush"
  • all the brushes have a flat base so they stand on the counter on their own
Now to the nitty gritty:
Blush Brush: this is a medium barreled shaped brush, with 'egg' shaped bristles

Powder Brush: this is a large barreled shaped brush with 'sphere' shaped bristles.

The Results

I have been thoroughly impressed with these brushes. They are dense, soft, don't shed (I have not lost one bristle!), and distribute products beautifully providing what I think is an air brushed look. The softness and denseness really allows for smooth and application without leaving harsh lines.

Blush Brush: You will never be left with 'clown cheeks' with this blush brush - I always seem to end up with a lovely blended cheek.

Powder Brush: Great for all over powder application or powder foundation (be warned, this bad boy is huge!)

The only downfall I found was the barrel size. The powder brush in particular has such a large barrel it takes up space in my brush holder. To me, that's minor to live with given the quality of these brushes, at such an affordable price.

If you're in the market to add some new brushes to your makeup collection - check out Real Techniques Brushes! What is your favorite line of makeup brushes? What Real Technique brushes do you recommend?
