I haven't delved too much trying out Tarte products (check out a review of BB cream - see a full review here). So I was excited to try out a sample of the Gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara. The full-size of the mascara contains 0.24 fl. oz. and goes for $24 CDN.

Facts about my eyes:
Size: Medium
Shape: Almond
Color: Brown
Type: Hooded

The Product: Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara ($24 CDN)

The name of this mascara stumped me a bit, but I assume it's 'gifted' as the product offers you naturally beautiful lashes. This is a pretty unique formula as it's not only a mascara, but claims to overtime to keep lashes hydrated, intact, healthier, and stronger, It also claims to provide voluminous lashes. The ingredients, are more natural than typical mascaras, using:

Amazonian clay: a skin nourishing ingredients for all skin types

Rice bran wax: offers high concentration of vitamin E, and is an antioxidant

Although I appreciate the use of more natural ingredients, I think it's also important that Tarte also support Rainforest cooperatives, and developing more sustainable products. See more details here.

The Results

Like many Tarte products the packaging is unique - and this one is no different as it's a "wood" package, focusing on the 'natural' properties of the mascara. I was neither here nor there about the packaging - as I think offering a 'recycled plastic' would have been more appealing. Now onto the performance:

Formula: This is more of a dryer formula mascara, which I personally prefer. It doesn't get clumpy over time, and applies evenly on the lashes. I found that my lashes didn't break off, and I didn't loose any lashes while I wore this mascara. Although I did only worn it about a week or so, I do find that the formula really made this an easy application, and easy removal which I think really helps keep you lashes healthy when you're not constantly tugging on them.

Application: The brush is dense and allows for even application of he product. I found it a little difficult to use on the lower lashes because of the size, but with a light touch it does apply well

Left: bare lashes; Middle: 2 applications; Right: after 5 hours wear
Wear-ability: This was a long-lasting mascara, and I didn't' experience any smudging or flaking. It held well over 8+ hours on hot days.

Final Verdict: For day time use, I think this is a great mascara, I really liked the formula, and I did find that I didn't loose lashes throughout the day. My only downfall, was that it was no voluminous enough. So for an evening look, I would personally use a different mascara.
