The Product: Meet Benefit's They're Real! Mascara ($12 CDN for 0.14oz; $29CDN for 0.3oz):
First let me start off with answering the question I'm sure most of you are asking - why do I have such a small mascara? Was this a sample size? Answer: I'm a sucker for miniature things, and this is the travel size of the mascara. Why the travel size you ask? Well - first mascaras have a short shelf life of only 3 months. Secondly, after one short episode of having a small eye irritation (to which I'm not sure what it was from to this day) I'm very particular about getting a new mascara every 3 months. So - I like purchasing the travel size since I can never seem to "finish" a mascara before it dries out or it's time to throw it out!

Mascara is such a personal preference - there are so many types out there - for everything from curl enhancing, to volume, to waterproof, some with a primer to build volume and well the list goes on and on. My mascara needs are based around something that looks natural, gives volume, does not clump, and probably most importantly - is long-lasting does not causes 'raccoon-eye syndrome' (which is especially problematic with hooded eyes),

This little mascara comes with some pretty big promises: dramatic length and volume, curling, lift, and long-lasting. The brush alone is pretty different - it's not your typical brush filled with bristles - "The staggered bristles grab close to the root, boosting length and volume. The custom-domed tip with precision bristles lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes. " The formula itself "glossy, jet-black, and long-wearing,"

The Results:
Well here it is - my bare, naked, mascara-less eye! I have descent length lashes - but there is absolutely no curl to them - they are as straight as can be. I wouldn't dare just throw mascara on them - An eye-lash curler for these straight lashes is an absolute MUST! Sure, I didn't test the 'curling power' of the mascara on it's own - that's because I know my lashes, and without an eye-lash curler there is no hope!

After a good curl and a few good coats of mascara - here's how they look! Well what do I think (don't mind my beauty spot on my right eye)? I LOVE this mascara. The formula is great, long wearing and natural looking. The brush is ideal to separate and distribute the product evenly - and lets you get right up in there - at the base of your lashes to really add volume.

You may think this is not the fullest lashes you've ever seen - sure I can get more volume from some mascaras, but at what cost? At the cost of ending up with spider lashes all clumped together, crusty lashes within hours, and raccoon eyes in the afternoon, With Benefit's They're Real - I get the best of all worlds - length, natural looking volume and long-lasting power - which is a must! Overall, I would highly recommend this mascara - especially if you have hooded eyes!.

Thanks for the detailed review of this mascara!! You know you make me want to give it a second chance, I think that at the time I tried it I was into the very thick eyelash look but this seems like a good pick for a more professional clean daytime look!

I have this same little guy but haven't used it yet. I feel like since it's been so hyped I need to save it for a special occasion, lol. After reading this review though I'll definitely bust mine open sooner rather than later.
Great post!
