AMOREPACIFIC Moisture Bound Spa Kit Review ($180 CDN)

8/3/2014

I know, I know. Who pays this astronomical price for skincare?! A girl's gotta treat herself once in a while - and this was one of those times. AMOREPACIFIC is a Korean cosmetic/skin care company that is relatively new to North America. After trying out a sample of the Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Creme from Sephora I decided to purchased my Moisture Bound Spa Kit. And of co!urse, since this kit included some minis (who doesn't love minis?!), I couldn't resist

About AMOREPACIFIC: The company harvests and handpicks its own green tea leaves, and are blended with their own blend of Asian botanicals fused with a patented formula.  Their ingredients are grown on an island off the coast of Korea. Pretty fancy stuff!

This particular kit was recommended to me by a sales associate at Sephora. AMOREPACIFIC offers a wide range of lines for more mature skin, and oilier skin.

The kit itself comes with the following:
- Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Creme, 1.7 oz (this is a full size)
- Treatment Enzyme Peel, 0.2 oz
- Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Eye Treatment Gel, 0.1 oz
- Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Serum, 0.3 oz
- Luminous Effect Brightening Masque, 1 sheet

I don't know about you, but sometimes my skin needs the equivalent of a cup of coffee to start off the day. And well, this foundation claims to do just that (in the color "natural beige")! Who's skin doesn't need a little pick me up every so often?

Facts about my skin:
Skin tone: Olive tone
Skin type: Oily and acne prone
Problems: Occasional breakouts on the chin and cheeks, acne scars, large pores in the t-zone, an oily t-zone, and the odd wrinkle.

Skinceuticals Clarifying Clay Masque
I was on the hunt for my usual Pro-Derm Micro-Peel Masque (see review here), I was recommended the SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque by my cosmetic dermatologist clinic. Skinceuticals is the medical grade line of the company that makes Clarisonic. This is the first product I have tried from SkinCeuticals or the Clarisonic line - I believe the SkinCeuticals line is still fairly new to Canada.

Facts about my skin:
Skin-tone: Olive skin tone
Skin-type: Oily acne prone
Problems: Cystic acne on the chin and cheeks, large pores in the t-zone, and the odd wrinkle

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment Primer - Review ($44 CDN)

AA, BB, CC creams, do you we'll keep going down the alphabet? The first BB cream I tried was from Garnier, and really I wasn't impressed. To me, most BB creams feel like tinted moisturizers - nothing special. I was recently at Sephora looking for something light to wear for the summer that would survive the entire day and provide medium coverage - and I was recommended Tarte's BB tinted treatment primer. Sure it's "primer" - but I put it to the test as a stand-alone BB cream.

Facts about my skin:
Skin tone: Olive tone
Skin type: Oily and acne prone
Problems: Occasional breakouts on the chin and cheeks, acne scars, large pores in the t-zone, an oily t-zone, and the odd wrinkle - well that's a depressing list.

Welcome to my review of Jane Iredale's PurePressed Base ($60 compact, $40 refill)!

The facts about my skin:

Skin-tone: Olive skin tone
Skin-type: Oily acne prone
Problem: Occasional breakouts on the chin and cheeks, acne scars, large pores in the t-zone, an oily t-zone, and the odd wrinkle - wow that's a lot of problems!

The Product: Meet Jane Iredale's PurePressed Base (in the color Latte)($60 compact, $40 refill)
If you're not familiar with Jane Iredale, the owner started the line in 1994 and their foundations claim to act as a foundation, concealer, sunscreen, contain active skin care benefits, and are non-comedogenic and do not block pores. This foundation in particular is said to be:
- Very water-resistant and highly pigmented
- Applies evenly and easily, providing long-lasting, gorgeous coverage
- Light diffusing properties make skin look flawless, healthy and younger
- Minimizes pores and fine lines
- No oil, talc, dyes and parabens
- Gentle, safe for sensitive eyes and formulated with good-for-the-skin ingredients

Below are the full ingredient details - from a refill package of the foundation. When you purchase it for the first time you will need to buy the compact and power combo for $60, The compact is a lovely gold color, made from metal and quite heavy - with the "J" design right on the compact. The re-fill foundations can be purchased for $40 - and if you order straight from the Jane Iredale site - your order comes with a note from Jane (I'm sure they're mass produced but which a nice touch!) and a real dried lavender - which was a nice surprise!

PRO-DERM Micro-Peel Masque: Chemical Peel or Mud Mask?

2/5/2014

Welcome to my review on Pro-Derm Micro-Peel Masque Formula ($52)

As part of a regular skin care regimen it's important to do a deep cleanse at least once a week. But what do you choose? A chemical peel or a mud mask? I enjoy both -  mud masks are so refreshing and are great for calming the skin. But I also love chemical peels - you can't beat the intense exfoliation that chemical peels are so great for. Well worry no more! You can havethe best of both worlds!

The facts about my skin:
Skin-tone: Olive skin tone
Skin-type: Oily acne prone
Problem: Cystic acne on the chin and cheeks, large pores in the t-zone, and the odd wrinkle

The Product: Meet the Pro-Derm Micro-Peel Masque ($52 CDN)!
The mask contains Glycolic Acid and three types of mud and clay. Because this is a medical grade line, you will only find it at your cosmetic dermatologist, or online. The mask comes in a 125ml jar (nothing exciting to look at) and the product smells like a regular mud mask - and well it certainly looks like one!

Welcome to my review of Skin Tx Acne Treatment.

The facts about my skin:
Skin-tone: Olive skin tone
Skin-type: Oily acne prone
Problem: Cystic acne on the chin and cheeks

The Product: Skin TX Acne Treatment System ($99CDN)
Skin Tx Acne Treatment is made up of two products for treatment - both using medical grade ingredients that can be found at your cosmetic dermatologist. I found this set at my local cosmetic dermatologist clinic where they do medical grade peels, and laser treatments. Here's what comes with the kit:

1. Wash (150ml) that is made up of 2% pharmaceutical grade Salicylic Acid - used to help clear acne

2. Lotion (30ml) that is made up of 5% pharmaceutical grade Benzoyl Peroxide - used to keep acne at bay and combat the prevention of whiteheads and blackheads. Note that the lotion may stain your pillows so use a white pillow case, or I just placed a towel on top of my pillowcase at night.
